bwinex is in Bordeaux...

Our History

A history of travels, tastings, listening, and analysing to build and offer the wine industry participants a very unique solution.

Bordeaux Wine Exchange (bwinex) was established in December 2007, with founding shareholders representing some of the most experienced individuals in Over-The-Counter (OTC) wine markets and trading workflows organisation.

bwinex was founded with the mission to transform OTC wine markets by providing a normalised, open, accessible, around-the-clock marketplace as an alternative to the previously fragmented and opaque markets.

bwinex offered the wine community price transparency, more efficiency, greater liquidity and lower costs than manual trading conducted through voice.

Working together with participants in the wine markets, bwinex developed what is becoming today a leading electronic marketplace for wines, along with the leading electronic trade confirmation platform.

2008 - The beginning of the Normalisation

Early 2008, bwinex launched the IWIN™ Masterfile service to help meeting global wine identification challenges.

bwinex have since then allocated nearly ½ million IWIN™ for wines in over 45 countries.

The use of the IWIN™ has dramatically increased administration procedures efficiencies while decreasing significantly the costs of cross-border trade failure. Having undertaken extensive consultation with our customers, we believe the real-time allocation mechanism contributes to a significant reduction in trade failures and the streamlining of manual processes.

2009 - A Perfect Vintage Lights up

2009 is certainly a pivotal year for bwinex, with extensive consultations in Bordeaux and globally (Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific) to draw a unique solution with the aim to simplify the complexity of wine markets fragmentation and the proliferation of pools of liquidities and merchants' specific commercial sites.

bwinex starts building a unique Marketplace consolidating execution management of the widest community of participants trading wines globally, covering professionals and individuals onto a single infrastructure.

2010 - The Start of a Bordeaux-based Clearing House and Central Warehouse

In the summer 2010, bwinex launched wineClear, a Bordeaux-based clearing house and central warehouse for wines. wineClear provides clearing services for all wines traded on the bwinex markets and cleared OTC transactions on the "Place de Bordeaux" OTC markets.

wineClear ensures the safety, anonymity, security and market integrity that are vital to bwinex trading processes, and the tracking, authentication and quality of the wines traded that are paramount.

Today, wineClear is a global leader in wine clearing, providing systemic risk reduction and addressing the operation and risk management needs of the wine markets.
